देव D

Last Monday I went to see "Dev D" movie at inox in Chennai.Long time since I saw a movie in theater with my wingies. Well Chuck wanted to go shopping for formals since he has IIM interviews coming up. So four of us(chuck, pam, Uncle and me) left early to the citi center. Rest of junta came in late. We checked out couple of shops before uncle convinced chuck that they have found the best possible dressing and should now wrap it up( in more ways than one).I missed the whole action as I was involved in heated discussion with my father about my career(that's for another post). After buying twelve tickets from coupons provided by pam/phantum,we went to food court to eat stuff, where we met rest of the junta. It was total dysfunctional dinner(each man for himself), highlight of which was uncle eating leftover from some plate as a part of "bet" with mcet. Poor mcet had to share half his pasta with uncle. Then at 10.20 we went to inox where jibbu and phantum joined in. To my surprised half of the theater was filled with iitians.Jibbu, who doesn't even know a word of hindi, sat next to me. He was Trippy- max and "loled" at all possible times.See below for some of the many quotes.
Since movie was released some 2 weeks ago most of us knew the story. Its the old story of a drunkard lover set in contemporary scenario(unlike sanjay leela bansali one). Movie was much more raw than it was said to be and some of us enjoyed it. The cinematography was highlight of the film along with its music. Director Anurag Kashyap needs to be commended for his insightful direction. While the srk's devdas left me snoring after 1/2 an hour, this one kept me entertained for at least first half.
After the movie majority of junta felt movie was over hyped and didn't deserve the 5 star rating it got from times of India(http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/moviereview/4082878.cms). A few of us (me included) thought it was a good movie if not masterpiece.

Quotable quotes:
1) " This is the strongest movie ever made in India" -- Pam
2)" Dude, she is crying da" -- Jibbu who was saddened when Mahi Gil(Paro in the movie) was crying.
3) " Dude what happened??" Jibbu to me when he didn't understand why the lead actress was crying.
4) " She looks so much like Iffy" - Jibbu saying Lenny aka chanda in movie reminded him of Skins character.
5)"Dude the director is god da. I really want to watch No smoking now !!"- -Pam after the movie.
6)"The movie is not for weak hearted" -- a film review on Dev D.
7)" Look at the way he(director) showed Rasika(some arbit character) in good light" -- Chuck supporting the argument why movie is so good.
8)" Dude the movie is awesome we should come back again." Jibbu and me at the interval.
9) "I didn't like the movie" -CG and Chu.
10) "The whole movie was about just one thing" -- clearly aggravated lady after the movie.

Luck by chance

This is the latest hit film released last week. Got very good reviews from every sources (cnn ibn, times of India etc). Wing mates had the "chance" to see it in multiplex during their kovalam trip. I missed it because i had to visit my dad who came to chennai for some meeting; ....sigh....bad "luck" huh..

Well in my personal opinion the film is pretty good with nice music. Lead actors were good with special mention to farhan akthar for his performance especially coming after a very good one in previous movie "Rock On". The best part of the movie was all characters were shown very realistically. No larger than life character and very good climax.

Watching the film got me thinking what is that makes a successful person? Luck(chance) or hard work. Vikram Singh in the movie believes we write our own luck and hard work determines where we reach. With all the due respects to his arguments i believe luck has important part to play in every successful adventure. Be it struggling actor who ends up doing the block burster of the year or cricketer at brink of being dropped who hits a century against the australians( or say south africa :P) People argue that they are what they are because they worked hard for it. I say right u did work hard to achieve whatever u wanted but wasnt it just by luck u actually chose to work in that field. A child has a million dreams about what he wants to become. But how come you choose this particular choice? Chance??

I think the only reason people fail to give luck its due because they fear it might take sheen out of their acheivement. Conceding luck is important for success will make people lazy and stop them from putting in extra effort. Well noble the intentions may be luck still undeniably plays an important role in success.

My favourite team :)

After a post on my favourite sports-person, its time to write about my favourite teams. And if title of the blog isnt a give-away, that would be Barcelona FC, also known as Barca. A club with great history and a club for which worlds best have played(and are playing). I must admit I wasnt even a football fan until I joined my engineering and never heard of barca before champions league 2006 final, the match which barca won 2-1 against arsenal to become european champions for second time. Never knew the quality of Barca until i actually played with it in EA Sports FIFA 07. But believe me when i say that i was facinated by their squad more than anything. Ronaldinho, Messi, Eto'o, Xavi and many more. The event which completely transformed how i looked at the club was when Henry joined it in summer of 07. Supposedly the best forward premier league has seen in some time has joined the club. With four of the most fearsome forwards in the world Barca was expected to beat every team and were destined to spanish and european glory. But that was not to be, combination of complecency, bad luck some injuries meant that team finished third in spanish league and had to fight for champions league group stage by playing qualification. It was decided that some radical changes were needed and it started with axing of coach/manager Frank Rijkaad and appointment of Pep Guardiola.

New coach brought in fresh changes which included some tough decisions like selling Ronaldinho and Deco. He brought in new faces like Deni Alves from sevilla which turned out to be a well thought move. The start of season was less than ideal with a loss to Numencia. Then there was controversy of whether Messi should be allowed to play for his country in the Olympics. But as the team settled the results began to come in. Well fought 1-0 and 2-1 turned in to 4-0, 5-0 ,6-0 routs. The forwards found their form and back of the net on regular basis. All the three of them (Henry, Eto'o and Messi) got hatricks and are among the top scorers in legue.Young Lionel Messi stepped out of shadows of Ronaldinho and is showing true class he really is. The club has broken many records in this season till now most important being highest number of points in the first half of the league. And best part was the win agianst arch-rivals Real Madrid at home. The going may be tough for other La Liga teams but its abut to get tougher as season goes on because Barca dont look like they are going to loosen up any. Well as a fan i only hope barca continue this form trough out the season and beyond and end the season with treble.

Roger Federer

What better way to start ur first post than to pay tribute to "arguably" the greatest tennis player ever. The man who for so long was synonymous with titles like the current Wimbledon champion, Australian open champion and US open champion was reduced to a mere mortal when he broke down after a 5 set hard fought defeat against arch- enemy Rafa"the bull" Nadal. As a Ferderer fan i feel bad for the loss, more than the Australian open semifinal loss last year to Djokovic because this was Federer's chance to avenge his final loss to Nadal at wimbledon last year. Hopefully he can recover some of his magical shots and bounce back at Wimbledon this year(asking for french open would be too much to ask especially in the form Rafa is in rite now). But who knows, no one expected nadal to win wimbledon so like some wisemen said "Expect the Unexpected".
